Took all color saturation out... which made more of a difference than I thought. I also increased brightness and contrast. I think the result looks pretty good! I found the color (mostly cyan... probably reflected from the sky) in the original photo to be a bit distracting. It made it harder to appreciate the balance between black and white that was already naturally in the photo. I hope you like this!

Blur the bg

All I did was copy the picture into itself. Blur the bg using Gausian Blur 0.5. The crop out the bg on the top layer. flatten the image.

I think the curtain-effect is stronger now and the tree is more in focus.
