Today I found a Cardui really beautiful and without damage, so I decided to publish it showing the opposite side to that of my last post.

VANESSA CARDUI
The Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui) is a well-known colourful butterfly, sometimes known in North America as the Cosmopolitan. It is one of the most widespread of all butterflies, found on every continent except Antarctica. In Australia, V. cardui has a limited range around Bunbury, Fremantle and Rottnest Island. However, its close relative, the Australian Painted Lady (Vanessa kershawi, sometimes considered a subspecies) ranges over half the continent. Other closely related species are the American Painted Lady (Vanessa virginiensis), and the West Coast Lady (Vanessa annabella). The Painted Lady occurs in any temperate zone, including mountains in the tropics. The species is resident only in warmer areas, but migrates in spring, and sometimes again in autumn. For example, it migrates from North Africa and the Mediterranean to Britain in May and June, but offspring produced there die in the Autumn.Painted Lady butterflies are popular for many pre-school and kindergarten classes to raise in schools to demonstrate the life cycle of a butterfly. Painted ladies are very popular with children. They are used in many science fair projects. Several insect distribution companies such as Insect Lore include Painted Lady caterpillars in their catalogue of live insects for ordering. The egg takes 3 to 5 days to hatch. The caterpillar takes 7-11 days to turn into a chrysalis. It takes 7-11 days for the chrysalis to turn into a butterfly. It doesn't stay in one area so long. The painted lady butterfly moves 1000 miles in its life. Its wing span is 2 in. The painted lady caterpillar is black with spiked skin. The caterpillars feed on a wide variety of host plants of the families Asteraceae, especially Carduus crispus (as implied by the species name cardui Latin for "of the thistles"). Also, Boraginaceae, Malvaceae (especially hollyhocks and dwarf mallow Malva neglecta), and a number of Fabaceae are eaten. The adults drink nectar from a variety of wildflowers and cultivars, more commonly the favored thistle, butterfly bush (Buddleja), asters, Tickseed sunflowers (Bidens) and zinnias.

VANESSA CARDUI

Hi Luciano,
Nicely composed image, spectacular enough. :-) However, I feel that some small technical issues might be amended (explained at the workshop), I mean the raw material's good, but post-procession was not fully done. Anyway, I hope you'll like my version also.
Kind regards from Ireland, László

Hi Luciano
The same beauty, although this one must be younger than the previous.
Sharp details and balanced exposure.

Ciao Luciano,
they are all used now, but this one is much less damaged than the last, good photography. In your interesting note you talk about migration. Another migratory species is the Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) for which an international effort is being made to trace its course https://www.ornitho.ch/index.php?m_id=30280>(see for instance here.
My best regards, Dietrich

Hi Luciano
Practically new wings! Excellent moment, it is not easy to catch them with open wings, they are constantly in movement.
Un saludo.
José

you are getting to view a lot of butterflies in your country, Luciano. Unfortunately, we here in Jammu are facing the leanest season in that respect.
This is a lovely capture of a Painted Lady.

The usual beautiful catch, very impressive colors and setting. I love this very charming.

Hello Luciano,
I am glad you like the Painted Lady so much....because it is my favorite butterfly specie.
Some years ago the fields here in Timis County, Romania, where full with this lovely colorful butterflies.....
The specie it disappeared in the last 4-5 years. I do not why, but it is sad.
Marius.

Bonsoir Luciano,

Pierre
