[Note Guidelines]
Family: Papilionidae
Genus: Papilio
Giant swallowtail, common in parts of North America and marginally into South America.
An adult's wingspam is about 100-160 mm. The body and wings are dark brown to black with yellow bands. There is a yellow eyespot in each wing's tail.
Adult females lay their eggs singly on the surface of the host plant, this egg is bright orange and darkens with time. The caterpillars then eat and grow to about 5 cm before changing into a chrysalis. The chrysalis stage is variable but usually takes approximately 10-12 days, although in the fall they may stay in the chrysalis stage over winter and emerge in the spring.

Hi Pedro, fantastic capture of this big papilio,i seen something like that in Cuba 2 years and it was a great emotion. The best pose with the open wings and a very sharp and bright shot,2 poits are not enough. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hola Pedro,
Fantastic pic, great open-wing position of the papilio and beautiful classical composition. Perfect sharpness, great shallow depth of field, and most importantly breathtaking light management - wonderful details on the butterfly, on both the bright and the dark parts. Absolutely an image to be proud of - bravo!
Kind regards from Ireland, László
