Nice image, colour in the eye is nice, little bit lacking in detail in the black neck, side lighting would have been better, or maybe a spot of fill flash. Little bit hot on the top of the beak, if you shot in RAW format you could fix that no problem using a separate layer and blend the 2 images together. I think I would have taken 2 steps to the right to use the other cormorant in the background as a frame, and to mirror the shape of the head/beak.

Great portrait of this cormorant!
I like so much your close approach, the get into the green of the eyes and the contrast with the yellow part of their skin
It's very good also the background got, it creates a very interesting pattern.
I like also the composition you made, with the bird integrated with the back.
Congratulations and thanks for share it,
My best regards,

C'est vrai que c'est spécial de voir cet oeil d'émeraude certie de diamants.Très jolis détails et les contrastes sont bons
Bravo et au revoir....JP
Fine close portrait of the Great Cormorant: sharp with the strange blurred BG fitting in nicely behind the head. Fine composition and lighting too!

Super sharp and colourful facial portrait of Great Cormorant. At 1/1600, Tv, the results are fantastic, especially in terms of subtle details. Do I see a drop like formation suspended at the bottom end of the bird's pupil?
TFS and take care.

What a splendid and unique portrait!
Unique because of that "tear"...i actually noticed that the first time (when i marked the post).
It really give the photo an emotional side (even though it may not be a real tear), something very few animal images have.
The colors and details are terrific and the lighting, although not the easiest one, is well managed.
Great POV and DOF, as well, blurring the BG nicely and therefore giving your subject an exceptional isolation from everything else.
Bravo and TFS

Fantastic portrait of this Cormorant which - even it is very much unwelcome among fishermen - still is a very beautiful bird to look at and I love them for their funny behaviour. Very clever handling of the light which is spot on around the face and eye. The background is well blurred and the colours look great and very natural. The composition is nice - I would like a little more space in front of the bird but that is a very personal matter.
All over a very nice picture and you did a great job here.
Have a nice Easter

What I notice about this photo is the depth of field sure enhances the artistic aspect of it. Besides being so clear, it has a nice angle on the head. I never get this close to cormorants to see these details. Look at the colour of these eyes.So nice. TFS Steph....and for the jokes.

very elegant and powerfully dynamic portrait with clear details. Fascinating to see water dropping from the cormorant's eye.
Like your cheerful little jokes.

Nice image, great detail and good light in the eye. Great colours too. I saw the tear before I read the note (honest! :-)) The black streak in the background is a little distracting, I find it useful to look around first and weigh everything up, including the background and then pick my position (hope I don't sound as if I'm nagging). Great image.

I truly like the way you have captured this head shot of the Cormorant. 'Captive Light' would probably have fall in the lake taking his two steps to the right. Sometimes these moves are not possible. I like the lighting and there is just enough to put a catchlight and also to light up what appears to be a teardrop. The balck neck contrasts with the beak.
Well doe and TFS.
