Yes, here is another photo of the grey squirrel which was earlier wrongly labelled by this name. After a little hard work I have come to know (and I hope I am not totally wrong) that this species of squirrels is called Northern (Five Stripe) Palm Squirrel. This one is also sitting in a Chinese Fan Palm, eating its resinous dates.
However the Northern Palm Squirrel (Funambulus pennantii) also called the Five-striped Palm Squirrel is a species of rodent in the Sciuridae family.
Here is the rest of information:
The Indian palm squirrel has a mixture of black and cream stripes across its back. It is native to India and Sri Lanka and also been introduced to Australia. The similar northern or five-striped palm squirrel can be found throughout India, Iran, Nepal and Pakistan. Both of these squirrels make their homes primarily in trees.
I have never personally counted the stripes but on the contrary do hope friends will like this close up shot of this innocent looking rodent, the rest of the personal research can wait a while, I hope......smile. |
